I’ve just finished the 1st year of my undergraduate degree in Medical biochemistry. After finishing school, I spent a few years working and travelling before coming to university as a mature student. I’ve been interested in medicine and medical science from an early age. Whilst I decided I did not want to work as a doctor, I became more interested in the science behind life, health and disease.
Previously as a brainwaves volunteer I got to see the wide range of activities organised and really wanted to get further involved. As Secretary it’s my job to organise meetings, plan agendas and take minutes but also I get to be involved with the brainstorming of new ideas.
I like the idea of a multidisciplinary approach to science, drawing ideas from many different disciplines. For example having physicists, biologists and mathematicians all working together using their different approaches and perspectives to bring new perception and understanding.
And of course I am really enthused by science communication, by sharing enthusiasm and bringing it to a wider audience to help others find a pathway into science.
