I’m Tacita and I am the Director of Science Brainwaves for 2011/2012. I am a PhD Student at the University of Sheffield in the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Department. I research into how E. coli (a bacteria that causes nasty food poisoning) generates energy to survive in different environments. Before I started my PhD I did my degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology, with an intercalated industry placement year at the University of Leeds.
I’ve spent a long time studying/working in academic and industrial science and enjoy so many aspects of it. I really appreciate how diverse science can be, how it affects everything we do and its possibility to explain so much of the unknown!
My role as Director of Science Brainwaves is to speak on behalf of the organisation and to promote it. I also keep a general overview of everything that Science Brainwaves does and make sure that the organisation continues to do the work it was set up to do – communicate science!
Feel free to email me if you have any queries regarding the overall organisation of Science Brainwaves;
