Hi!
This week we have so many things happening! We have loads of opportunities to volunteer with school children, at our outreach day, the science after school club, and the Fascination with Plants event. We also have a Thank You Dinner which everyone is welcome to, just click attending on the facebook event, and enjoy some delicious food and wine courtesy of Science Brainwaves as a thank you for all your hard work! We are running our first ever book club this Sunday, and our brilliant event all about beauty and sex, Better Looking, Better Loving! So do get involved!

Schools Outreach Day – 28th March Octagon Centre
o We have an Outreach day on 28th March, which is next Wednesday!
o We will have 109 year 5 and 6 students and we are recruiting lots of volunteers to help!
o There are two slots, morning and afternoon, where it is best if you are able to do a whole slot rather than just an hour or two
o Training is on Monday 26th March in the Activities Zone at 5.30pm
o If you are interested and want to find out more about volunteering with children with Science Brainwaves, please email h.kodam@sciencebrainwaves.com
Science after School Club – Neutrinos
o Science Brainwaves is staring an afterschool science club to be part of the Zest Centre’s homework club aimed at primary school children.
o Our first session is this week and we have an excited team of volunteers but we are recruiting volunteers for future sessions.
o We would like volunteers to develop a regular (probably one every 2 months to start off) science club, with a topic for each session and a main science activity.
o If you are interested in finding out more, please email k.chapman@sciencebrainwaves.com
Better Looking Better Loving – The science of Beauty – 30th March
o Our next exciting event is coming up soon, with the science of make up and sex and what makes us all beautiful.
o We are looking for volunteers to help out on the night so if you are interested please email t.nye@sciencebrainwaves.com
o Tickets are also on sale now, so check out our event page at http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/382822835078882/ or book tickets at http://tickets.sheffieldstudentsunion.com/ents/event/3043/ or from the union box office.

Wild about plants – 18th May
o We have a brilliant schools event coming up soon which we are recruiting volunteers for.
o We will be going in to a number of secondary schools to help them put together activities, which they will then run for primary school children.
o This event is being run in conjunction with APS (Animal and Plant Science) but we would like some Brainwaves volunteers to join each group and feedback to the Brainwaves committee
o If you would like to be involved in the running and development of this, please email d.swain@sciencebrainwaves.com
Next Year’s Committee!
o The chance to be on next year’s committee is fast approaching!
o Being on the Science Brainwaves committee gets you heavily involved in all of our exciting activities and events and is a great way to learn all sorts about science communication.
o As Brainwaves is a branch of the British Science Association, and has excellent links with many important bodies in the science community, being on the committee is a brilliant stepping stone to anything you want to do after finishing university.
o We will be opening nominations for committee very soon, for the AGM on 26th April so get thinking about what you would like to run for!
o The role descriptions will be available shortly, so look out for this!
o If you would like to find out more, please email b.dornan@sciencebrainwaves.com
